Hacking Update: That's more like it! *Updated with paint color

My sister ahem, client sent me pics of the improved color of her dining room buffets.

Remember, these are Ikea's Edland two-drawer chests - which have good lines to begin with.
But, nothing much beats a few coats of high-glossy plus extra lacquer for funsies. Oh, yeah, and some stepped-up hardware. **The paint color is "Daring" by Sherwin Williams - and it was professionally sprayed. We found the Indian hardware at a local antique co-op.**

The first go-round was a little pinky-peach....

While our goal was for true coral. Check it with the chevron kilim and fuchsia velvet.  Looks amazing against the wallcolor, too.  BTW, the walls are painted in Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray.

Some finishing touches are in store, but I'd say this room is well on her way to outright fabulousness.

I love these Ikea Edland pieces, but not loving their original finish. This glossy paint and WOW color sure make me want to run up to Ikea and purchase! Would you mind sharing the "how to" for the paint?

Hi. Looks Fab! Do you mind sharing the paint color?

My Interior Life said...

Yes, have you shared that coral color yet? Because it's perfect. Love it with the fuschia and black/white chevron. So fun! Brilliant decorating!

Wow those are beautiful! I have loved those Edland pieces but did not love the finish and hardware. This is a perfect look! I can't get enough high gloss and the gold hardware is beautiful. Would you mind sharing what that color is and where the hardware is from. I would also love to know what lacquer she uses. I just got a benjamin moore stays clear but have not tried it yet but I am always looking for a great lacquer. I would love to see more from her house!

I LOVE it! I paint everything and what a difference ... the color is fabulous ... and in answer to another comment, I'm not sure what lacquer you used, but my new favorite is "Eurothane Varnish" by Fine European Paints. It is $65.00 a quart ... pricey ... but fabulous.
What I also love is the mirror image, these two pieces together with matching lamps and mirrors! Thank you for sharing!!

I.LOVE.IT!!And will now have a different way at looking at IKEA's furniture selections next time I visit. I've been inspired!

vb said...

what sort of place do you go to get it professionally sprayed?

alison giese Interiors said...

@vb
Most professional painters have a power-sprayer they can use for furniture.
In a pinch, you could approach a body shop, too.

Helena - A Diary of Lovely said...

wow I love it, and actually I really like the pink too, would look lovely in a little girl's room!

Unknown said...

amazing.......found you on pinterest :))) love it

Anne said...

Do you happen to know if they sanded or prepped the pieces before spraying? I love this exact piece but have been reading that IKEA furniture doesn't hold onto paint well. Makes me nervous investing in a piece if it will scratch off.

I featured this dining room yesterday on my blog Finding Fabulous...I just love it!! It's such a great idea to find an affordable side board or two! And then spray them in glossy paint! Love how it's traditional yet totally chic and updated!
