Design Resolutions

In keeping with the spirit of the upcoming New Year, Elle Decor went to some heavy hitters asking for their design resolutions. Several mentioned the use of new or "fresh" color combinations, while others felt the need to edit - paring down knick-knacks and unused items.

I'm not a big fan of resolutions, but the concept got me thinking, what do I resolve in terms of design for 2011 and beyond?

I have to say, my goal for all things home and decor is to move beyond the temptation for a quick fix. To hold out for higher quality, which most certainly means smaller quantity. To pursue interest rather than trend, as well as to learn the art of layering - art, table settings, bookshelves, etc.

Oh, and to have bright, beautiful curtains - somewhere.
So, there's my design resolution(s). What's Yours?

Oh My I have not been able to wrap my brain around those thoughts yet, but I know they are on their way because they are pretty much in my brain all year long!!! I think your goals are very good ones and attainable, good luck to you and Happy New Year!! Kathysue

I resolve to focus on one or two things at a time and to direct all of my budget to these, than spending on different spaces in my house and feeling like no room is "finished"

This is a great question! I would like to switch out all of our horrible rental lighting this year and finish off our bedroom.

"To pursue interest rather than trend" - I love that.

I will endeavor to keep on keeping on with our remodeling projects.

Loved this quote and such a big yes to the bright curtains. As for me, I resolve to redo my kitchen within budget- and to finish the million little fix-up jobs on my list. A very Happy New Year to you!

I like your design resolutions. I've definitely been starting to accept that it's better to hold out for the better quality items rather than buy a cheaper, quick fix. It's often hard, but totally worth it in the long run! Especially because all those quick fixes really do add up!

those sound like great design resolutions. i never make any. design or personal. but i have been thinking more about them this year than any other.
i think there is more in my life these days that i am frustrated with and want to change than there ever has been so that may be the impetus for me MAYBE setting a few "goals"..lets call them...
