Remembering

Twelve years ago today, the world was stunned to learn that Princess Diana had been killed in an horrific car crash in Paris. I count myself as one of the multitudes who was mesmerized by her seemingly perfect life marred by human frailty and flaw.
I've visited the tunnel at the Place D'Alma where Diana died - and like all shrines, it is eerie and tragic. All I could think was: Her poor children. She would be alive if this tunnel were in the U.S. (and she'd been treated under American emergency protocol), and Why wasn't she wearing her seatbelt?
Choices.
Rest in Peace, Diana.

Thanks for the reminder today Alison. Her death impacted me quite a bit too. We took our daughter to Paris last fall and walked by the shrine to her {just outside the tunnel where the accident happened} and for the entire trip she asked me to tell her the story over and over...even at 4 years old and years later she was impacted by it too.
Happy Monday!

I was alone in our apartment that night when I heard the news of the horrific crash and could not believe it. She'll live on in all our hearts.

Hard to believe it's been 12 years ago. I remember watching the news reports roll in first hearing she was "gravely injured" and a short while later reports confirming that she had died.

I remember the funeral, too, and how touched I was watching her sons walk in the funeral procession. William and Harry are just a bit younger than my sister and I and I remember thinking how unfair it would be to lose your mother at such young ages...

I remember watching her wedding whilst in college, and then watching her as a Princess and then a Mom, and above all live such an elegant life end so tragically.
