Sources and Secrets: Mary's Room

Y'all have been so sweet with your compliments of Mary's room - thank you!
I've received a few questions and comments about the sources and how-to's. There's no way I could hold out on amazing readers like you, so here ya go!
Using the images as review (numbered clockwise from top left):
Ideas for Mary
  • Image 1: Side chairs from Overstock, reupholstered in Spicer Hvy Basket in Celery from LS Fabrics.
  • Image 2: Shield-back accent chairs from our local Habitat for Humanity Restore - spray painted in Kryon's Ivy Leaf. Seats recovered in a natural linen from Hobby Lobby.
  • Image 3: Settee from Craigslist - Houston.
  • Peacock blue velvet throw pillows from Target
  • Abstract landscape (as well as butterfly prints) from art.com
  • Adjustable Arc Sconces from Pottery Barn
  • Side tables from Hobby Lobby - originally black, I repainted them with gold "Rub 'n Buff" paint
  • Image 4: Console table from Tuesday Morning, repainted in Sherwin Williams Liberty Blue
  • Image 5: Buffet lamps (love that pattern on the shades!) from JCPenney
  • Image 6: Strands of chunky turquoise from the Warrenton Antiques Festival (at only $15 a strand, they were a killer deal!) *Coffee table came from same place
Not visible in these pics, but also received questions on: the cowhide rug: Ebay. The nubby jute rug: West Elm. The large blue and white ginger jar: Homegoods. Pair of white Chinese garden stools: Big Lots.

Hope that helps!

Design Dilemma Reveal: Mary's Room

The time for teasing is over...

I hope it was worth the wait.

Mary's room, in all it's glory (remember the sad "before?")

Our idea was casual elegance using some of Mary's favorite greens and blues.

Sources run from the Habitat for Humanity store to West Elm to antique fairs (and everything in between!)

A Craigslist "french-ish" linen settee with a pair of DIY gilded pedestal tables

Habitat shield-back chairs redone in granny smith green for a little whimsy, and a wonderful ikat for an overhaul of the Overstock chairs.

Butterfly prints that turned out better than I had hoped, and a pile of Turq-WAZ - can you resist? Nope, neither could we!

Details matter.

...and, last but not least, the lady who trusted me (and paid the bills!) Thank you, Mary, it was such a treat!

For the full unveiling of Mary's room. I'll be tidying up the details in the a.m., but by late afternoon, you'll be able to see how we took it from this...

Art in Action

I've received a few questions about the butterfly botanical prints I selected for Mary's room, so I thought I'd give a few more details. The prints are listed on art.com titled under "Collection I, II, III, and IV" Here is a link to "Collection I."
The prints are 8x12, which I knew would require a bit of custom framing. However, I didn't have the time or budget for four custom frame orders. Instead, I found a standard 11x14 frame, and had matboard cut to size at our local Hobby Lobby's frame department. A note of interest: Selecting matboard from the framing department would have taken two weeks for turnaround, so instead, I selected matboard from their collection in art supply, and they cut it for me right then.
If you like to crunch numbers on projects: Butterfly prints - $10 each, Frames - $18.00 each (1/2 off!), Mats - $6.00 each - So, less than $35 a piece for custom-framed art!

The To-Do List

I feel like my to-do list grows by the minute. Trying to get Isla's passport and visa paperwork rolling so we can return to Brazil, wrap up the details of Mary's room, oh, and (first and foremost) be a focused and present wife and mom is all-consuming, and tends to make me feel I'm living in some sort of time warp. (It's 7 am, wait! It's noon! WHERE did five hours evaporate to?)

One of the things on my checklist is to find frames for this set of lovelies that will grace one of the walls in Mary's room.

Aren't they great? Found them at art.com, and I'm thrilled with the quality!

Speaking of being a mom - I hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day - with your own mother, children, or both! This Mother's Day was bittersweet for me, as my mother is in the hospital, but I received double-the-love from my precious girls.

Lots to be thankful for...

'round Dis Houzz

Pffeewww! That's the sound of me coming up for air - you know, like a whale spewing out its blowhole? I guess it goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway) that posts around MLHP will be fewer and further between for awhile, what with new baby routines, etc, etc.
HowEVAH, when I DO get a chance to put something up, I'll certainly try to make it worthwhile.

A few Orders of Business, first:
  • Thank YOU for the sweet and complimentary comments on the blog's new look. I'm thrilled with how it turned out, and can thank Jessica Graves of Front Porch Studio for so cleverly deciphering my ideas of a what a clean, elegant, and above all, happy new home for MLHP should look like. Thanks again, Jess!
  • There's still some detail work being done on links, but if you have any major problems with seeing images, etc, please let me know.
Now...I hope you haven't forgotten about my little redo project over at Mrs. Mary's casa. We've got the bulk of the room together, and even had an impromptu install/pizza party Friday night. I know you must be ready for something more than teaser shots, but I feel confident saying this project is worth waiting for the full effect. On that note of frustrating teasers, here's a few more details from Friday night's session...

Remember this chair from Overstock? The Before.
